A 2-piece indie rock band from the United States: interview with Planet Of Ghosts

Q: Hi, guys! Can you start with the basics about Planet Of Ghosts?
A: Of course. We’re a 2-piece indie rock band from the United States. We live in different states. Adam lives in California and Casey in Ohio. We play and record all the instruments ourselves. We love a lot of different styles of music so our sound is a blend of psych, indie, alternative, folk rock, punk, and whatever. We cover a lot of ground.

Q: Ok cool. Let’s have some fun. As a band, what are your top 5 albums of all time?
A: Oh man, there are so many! Let’s see…
The Lonesome Crowded West by Modest Mouse
Oracular Spectacular by MGMT
Check Your Head by Beastie Boys
Perfect From Now On by Built To Spill
Can we say Nirvana’s Nevermind or is that lame?

Q: No that’s not lame at all, that’s great! How about top 5 books?
A: This is fun. How about…
Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance
The Dark Tower Series
The Road
Illusions
Blood Meridian

Q: Top 5 podcasts?
Disgraceland
You Made It Weird
Mysterious Universe
Song Exploder
The Sounds Of Bustown because we just did that one, ha!

Q: Top 5 movies?
A: Ok this is getting difficult.
Magnolia
24-Hour Party People
Ghostbusters
Babylon
Dead Man

Q: Top 5 current bands?
A: Again, there are so many!
Ty Segall
Dumbo Gets Mad
Big Thief
Idles
Osees

Q: Top 5 most underrated bands?
A: I like this question. I like it a lot.
Transfer
White Denim
Dead Pirates
The Glands
Parasites Of The Western World

Q: Good answers. Can you guys tell us something, anything you want, about each track on your new album The End Is Over?
A: Yeah ok.
Law Of Jante is the album opener. The phrase “law of Jante” is Swedish and it basically means that nobody is better than anyone else.
Swarming Forms is a shoegazey blast of 90s-era underground rock with our weird twist on it.
Rotting In Public is acoustic but keeps ratcheting up the heat until it stands up and starts knocking over buildings.
Slaves To Ourselves is a quirky song about living in the modern world.
Lost Gardens is a boat ride through bends and turns that arrives at an indie rock anthem.
Creeper Van Returns might be our Paranoid Android. It’s a big song that constantly unveils something new around every corner.
Young As The Sun is two distinct tones and voices having a conversation back and forth, working through something together.
Z-Man NYC is a high-energy song in a kind of garage rock spirit. The name is based on a wrestling move Casey’s older brother used to torture him with!
Elsewhere is a dissonant groove that has a very unique, almost futuristic science fiction feel to it.
Junk Drawer is somber and soft and dark. There is some self-pity that finally gives way.
It Got In (My Brain) is a powerhouse that punches and kicks and might bite you or your loved ones.
Life Never Ends is psych rock that’s both classic and modern, and it gets up and runs down the street.
Heyoka is a pretty, sparse line drawing. Like a journal entry or a poem. It’s nice.

Q: Awesome, thanks. Is there anything else you’d like to say?
A: No problem, sure. The End Is Over is available right now on all streaming platforms. The Planet Of Ghosts YouTube channel has our music videos and we’re always making more. There’s been so much enthusiastic feedback about this album and what we’re doing and we can’t thank everyone enough. Big thank you to everyone following along and thank you QALT for having us!
